Employer Alert: Additional Employer Posting Requirements Started on January 1, 2024

Employer Alert: Additional Employer Posting Requirement Started on January 1, 2024

The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry established a new posting requirement for all employers with more than 50 full-time equivalent employees. This new posting requirement went into effect on January 1, 2024. The new poster is aimed at raising awareness for the services offered by the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs to Minnesota’s veterans and their families.

The new posting requirement requires the covered employers to display a poster in a conspicuous location that is accessible to all employees. The poster with the required information is available for free from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry’s website (click here to download), so although only employers with more than 50 full-time equivalent employees are required to display it, even employers with fewer employees can add this poster (at no cost) to their workplace display.

The poster specifically raises awareness of the following resources for Veterans and their families:

  • Adult Day Program
  • Counseling for substance use disorder and mental health treatment
  • Dental and vision assistance
  • Educational, workforce and training resources
  • Eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits under state and federal law
  • Emergency assistance
  • Ending Veteran homelessness and housing assistance
  • Filing health and disability claims (VA and Social Security)
  • Legal services
  • Minnesota GI Bill for license certification, apprenticeships, or higher education
  • Minnesota Veteran driver’s licenses and identification cards
  • Preventing Veteran suicide
  • State Veterans Cemeteries
  • State Veterans Domiciliary Program
  • State Veterans Homes (skilled nursing facilities)
  • Tax benefits
  • VA healthcare enrollment
  • Veteran family assistance
  • Women Veteran support

Employers that fail to properly display this new poster (or any other required poster for that matter) risk substantial penalties and/or fines. Every employer with at least 50 full-time equivalent employees should obtain this new poster and add it to their display if you have not already done so to prevent that possibility.

In addition to this new Department of Labor and Industry posting requirement, there are new state laws that went into effect January 1, 2024 that affect employers including the Earned Sick and Safe Time and Preventing Pay Discrimination Act.
