Settled: Largest Punitive Damage Award in a Police Case in Minnesota History

Al Hixon, represented by Andrew Parker and another PDK attorney accepted a $1.1 million settlement with the City of Golden Valley after a jury found that Hixon was the victim of excessive force, brutality and assault during a mistaken arrest in 2005 and a federal judge subsequently refused the city a new trial.

Andrew Parker represented Hixon in his suit against the city. A federal jury awarded Hixon $328,000 in compensatory damages and $450,000 in punitive damages. U.S. District Judge Richard Kyle refused the city's request for a new trial and also refused to lower the jury award, which has been cited as the largest punitive damage award in a police case in Minnesota history.
